Attorney Stephen M. Murphy
Stephen M. Murphy is known as a top plaintiff employment attorney in San Francisco. Mr. Murphy has been nominated several times for San Francisco Trial Lawyer of the Year and won the award in 2008. He is certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Mr. Murphy has been recognized as one of the top plaintiff's employment attorneys in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Recorder newspaper. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and is AV-rated*, the highest designation under Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system. Mr. Murphy served as President of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association in 2009 and for many years as editor-in-chief of its Trial Lawyer magazine. He currently serves on the boards of the SFTLA and the Consumer Attorneys of California.
A graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law, Mr. Murphy worked as law clerk to the justices of the New Hampshire Superior Court, where one of his supervising judges was former United States Supreme Court Justice David Souter. He began practicing law in 1982 with Bianco, Brandi & Jones before opening his own law firm in 1999.
Mr. Murphy is the author of the mystery novel Alibi and Their Word is Law: Bestselling Lawyer-Novelists Talk About Their Craft , a book of interviews with prominent writers in the genre, and What If Holden Caulfield Went to Law School: Selected Legal Fiction and Nonfiction .
